We’ll be raffling tickets to see Deadpool in theaters!

Join us at Ferg’s Depot in the Church Street District for our 36th consecutive Nerd Nite in Orlando.

Nerd Nite is an evening of entertaining yet thought-provoking presentations– all while the audience drinks along in a casual atmosphere. Speakers present for 15-20 minutes each on a fascinating subject of their choice, often in an uncanny and unconventional way. Following each presentation is a brief Q&A with the audience.

When: Thursday, February 11, 2016. Program begins at 7pm
Where: Ferg’s Depot (78 W Church St, Orlando, FL 32801)

Cost: Nerd Nite is still FREE (but there is a suggested donation of $5)

Speaker List:
Naomi Gossett
Banks Helfrich
Beth Phillips

Presentation List:
“The Art of Bumper Stickers” by Banks Helfrich

From Shakespeare to the bumper two feet in front of you on I-4, Banks Helfrich takes an idea, molds it, condenses it, uploads it and sells it as a bumper sticker.

“Selfies in a Selfish Society” by Naomi Gossett

When our grandparents took photos of themselves they were called self-portraits, but technology has changed and given rise to the selfie. The selfie is considered by the modern world to be the bane of the social media age- but why? Does the selfie represent a lack of confidence? A desperate plea to the world for attention and validation. This talk will explore the presence of selfies in our selfish society.

“The Droid We’re Looking for and The Coming Social Robot Revolution” by Beth Phillips

While BB-8 is a figment of our imagination, robot friends and partners will soon be a big part of our everyday lives. Join us for a talk where we discuss the coming robot friend-volution and the wonderfully cool world of social robots.
